  • Mark Stuart

With a passion for storytelling and a love for authentic sound, Mark Stuart brings his unique voice to the heart of country music, captivating audiences with every performance.

A Southern California native, Stuart grew up surrounded by the sounds of classic country and rock that shaped his songwriting roots. Today, he makes his home in New Braunfels, Texas, in the heart of Hill Country, where he lives with his wife and daughter and continues to write, record, and perform music that bridges the past and the present.

As the founder of The Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash—a band personally endorsed by Johnny Cash himself—Stuart became a respected force in the Americana and roots-country world. The band earned a devoted following and carried the torch of genuine, hard-traveled country music across the globe.

Over time, however, Stuart felt a growing pull toward something more personal. The name that once opened doors had also begun to define the boundaries of how others saw the music. Releasing Where the Neon Fades under his own name marks both a creative and personal turning point—an evolution, not a departure.

  • The start of a new chapter...

Recording and performing as Mark Stuart gives the songs space to breathe, without expectation or nostalgia, while honoring the legacy that built his foundation. The history remains, but it no longer confines him; it’s the ground he stands on, not the box he’s in.

Stuart’s songwriting has always been rooted in truth—stories of highways and homecomings, of love, loss, and resilience. On stage, his performances are intimate, warm, and deeply human, connecting audiences through the shared experiences that make his songs timeless.

The Bastard Sons legacy may have launched his career, but this next chapter belongs to Mark Stuart—an artist embracing his own name, his own story, and a sound that is truer, bolder, and entirely his own.

  • Praise for Mark Stuart

“…pure Americana heart and soul…heavy, toe-tapping shuffle rhythms, adroit and stylish steel picking, and guitar work that approximates a train chooglin' down the track full steam ahead.”

    — Rolling Stone

“…Stuart creates neo-country that’s quite a few cuts above much of today’s genericana mediocrity ...crackling, stinging twang...touching on heartland roots rock, zesty bluegrass and affecting ballads, delivered in an abundant and versatile voice.”

    — Rob Patterson, Texas Music

“Stuart captures the lonesomeness of Cash, the stripped-down melodies of Nebraska-era Bruce Springsteen, the rowdiness of Steve Earle and morphs them into a captivating collection that blends twang and sophistication.”

    — Billboard Magazine

  • “I’ve always believed you can’t write honestly about what you haven’t lived. “Where the Neon Fades is me looking back at the highways, the honky-tonks, and the quiet corners where decisions were made. It’s not just about where I’ve been—it’s about where I’m headed.”

    — Mark Stuart
